Speak Out, Help Out! 2019

A Campaign to help the LGBTQ+  youth

 

“Speak out, help out!” A lens on the LGBTQ+ community across the United States.

 

My name is

Bela Kolozsvari, a NYC based Hungarian photographer. I created the campaign in 2019 with the goal of pulling focus from the noise of the talking heads of the country, and highlighting the people who’ve yet to lend their voice to discussion. In the campaign, I will travel across the country, visiting all 50 states to meet with individuals of the LGBTQ+ community to hear their stories, and photograph their portraits. 

 

Artist’s Statement:

 

I’d like to show the American People how acceptance and consideration of  LGBTQ+ people varies throughout the country, and the struggles and celebrations the LGBTQ+ youth goes through; especially during the current climate of our country, and the growing persecution of LGBTQ+ individual in the world. 

 

With this project I want to help the LGBTQ+ youth, to show them they have support within and outside of their own community, that there are people who’ve gone through what they have and these people are there for them. I want to give them courage, and help them find strength to feel secure and rooted in every aspect that makes up their identity. I believe all LGBTQ+ people need help, support, and encouragement more than ever, and I want to do what I can to help create hope when the most common thought is suicide and self harm. I’ve found my way, and am now happy, and I want to do my part to help others live out their lives with pride.
